Be Prepared For Wedding Emergencies

Saturday, January 9th, 2010 | Relationships | No Comments

Having a little bag that you can carry (or have someone in the bridal party carry) with you throughout the wedding day can keep you from worrying about things that may happen, and dealing with them when they do.

Medicine

Although everyone is feeling wonderful on the wedding day, it’s amazing what a few nerves can do to the body. Headaches, upset stomachs, and dizziness can all rear their ugly heads right when you are feeling the most pressure.

And that’s not just the couple.

You may want to keep on hand a few things to keep everyone feeling good, or at least keep them upright throughout the ceremony. A chewable or liquid antacid is a great way to calm any nervous stomachs. Crackers and ginger ale are good though too. For headaches, you can keep some acetaminophen on hand. This is usually gentler on the stomach than ibuprofen, and can be taken without food.

If the bride or bridesmaids should feel dizzy, then have them immediately sit down. Dizziness can be caused by a lot of things—low blood sugar, nerves, and more serious conditions. If the bride or groom should faint, smelling salts can help to revive them.

Bandaids are good too for sore feet in too tight of shoes.
Beauty fixes

For the women, you may want to have a few beauty tools to keep everyone looking their best. Spare lip gloss and balm are good to keep the lips looking good. A translucent face powder will keep the nose and forehead from shining. Always keep a small bottle of clear nail polish as well. This is good for fixing rhinestones that have fallen off dresses to sealing tears in stockings.

A small brush and mirror can also help, while hair spray and extra deodorant are also nice to have on hand. Bobby pins can help most hair crises, but a curling iron can be an asset too.

Miscellaneous

It’s amazing what you may need and never think of. For example, did you think to bring extra straight pins for the corsages or in case the bouquets fell apart? A small sewing kit is good to in order to fix up any small emergencies.

Stain remover and chalk are also good to have on hand. If there should be any stains that need removing, the stain remover is there. If there’s something on the bride’s dress, then you can lightly cover it with the chalk—it works great and won’t hurt the dress.

Options to New Wedding Decorations

Monday, December 28th, 2009 | Relationships | No Comments

While some need their marriage celebrations to resemble a gala social event, others may prefer marriages which are subdued and intimate. However whatever kind of marriage you’ll have your heart set on; chances are the decorations for the event will take centre stage before all other points to consider.

Wedding decorations consist of decoration of the entire venue with keen attention to specific details, such as decoration of the entrance, the walkways, the tables, the walls, the ceilings, the food as well as the wedding favors. Doing these decorations can involve a lot of effort and while some people prefer to do them on their lonesome to lend them a private touch, others like to get them done by professional decorators or expert wedding planners.

Before confirming the wedding décor, remember to consult with your soon-to-be better other half. If you have budget considerations you may need to opt for a less is more theme which will allow you to line up both lovely and elegant decorations without too many flashy or expensive details which can often be quite distractive.

most of the people like to take up themes for their marriages involving fantasy topics such as medieval, renaissance, Victorian or spring. You may either choose your own theme or opt for a particular color for your marriage that may feature prominently in all your decorations and give it a feeling of uniformity.

To come to details, pay attention to the table and chair settings for the final feel of the ambiance of the wedding. Go for the standard, easy look, use colored tablecloths. Use a spread of table centerpieces, such as flower bouquets, enormous sandstones or small pebbles immersed in water. Put covers on chairs and tie them at the back to make them look lovely. Also, take proper care of the lighting agreements as they can seriously change the locale into a magical place. Other important elements can include smart curtains, water fountains and potted plants. Balloons can also add a touch of fun to the celebrations, especially those floating from the ceilings. Additionally, ribbons trailing down can add to the special effects.

Irrespective of what kind of marriage decoration you select, make sure that it reflects love and unison. And you need to make the whole ambience romantic by plush accessories. Carry that romantic feel in your eyes and you are likely to do up the entire venue.

Wedding Ettiquette - What you Need to Know

Consider it as playing practice marriage. Here are some tips and tricks in order to make your beautiful dream wedding come true while at the same time letting your inner creative side shine through.

- First of all, you should consider the menu as a very important part of the wedding plan. As the bride or groom, you might be too nervous or too happy to even sample the menu, but either way, the food should reflect your likes and if possible, make the menu a fusion of you and your partner’s preferences.

- Always wear a smile on your face when the going gets tough. And if you are into retail therapy, maybe you can stop for an hour or two when you might want to retreat from all the excitement and fuss. These moments might be your flashbulb-lighting-in-the-head moments wherein you’ll have an unexpected idea that pops into your head.

- Sometimes, the best ideas come from moments when you least expect it. So to speed up the process, why not invite friends over, have dinner and ask for their insights and maybe have a glass of wine or two.

- Sit down with your partner to be and make some clarifications and ask for his or her ideas and jot them down in a notebook.

- Add your own twist to the things like the table settings and party favors by adding what you think look good, like faux pearls, seashells or even little starfishes.

- If you are really serious into having candle wedding favors, then add some serious fun with sparkles, glitter or rhinestones. The little things like that separate a dull and simple favor into something really cute and worth talking about.

You might also want to look into the possibility of giving coasters for beach weddings as party favors. You can be as creative as you can with this but it is still a practical option that will surely be used by your guests even after a week after the wedding.

A Guy’s Guide to Wedding Planning

Thursday, March 19th, 2009 | Relationships | No Comments

wedding planning

Most women get more excited about their wedding than their male counterparts, but this does not mean that guys are off the hook because the details are not important to them. In some cases, men can be made miserable by the wedding planning process, or their groomsmen may ‘accidentally’ be dressed in pink tuxes the day of the wedding if the groom did not take enough interest to participate the wedding planning. This can be a difficult time to get through. As her future husband, you will want to be involved, but will probably not be nearly as into planning the wedding as your fiancé. To avoid some unnecessary friction, there are a few steps you may want to take.

First off, you need to find out what you are up against and what may come up during the wedding planning process. If you know what arrangements and details will have to be dealt with, you can at least minimize the number of surprises. It would be wise to call a wedding planner and layout your situation so that you can get a professional’s opinion of the ceremony and ideas of how you can make things easier on yourself. You should also have some conversations with married people to get some opinions of things they like and don’t like, especially people who are close to you and your bride. Top on the list of married people to speak with are your parents and her parents. They will be able to give you some pointers to help make the process easier.

Although knowing what to expect will help immensely, your fiancé will likely have several items or details she is set on. Your best bet can be to just go with the flow, unless she is proposing something you consider outrageous. In some cases, your fiancé may want you to be involved in every step of the process, down to what kind of flowers, what color flowers, and how many. Although the flowers at your wedding may be of little consequence to you, this and other wedding planning issues could be huge for her. One phrase you should learn to help you get through this time is, “What do you think.” By asking this question you can see what is on her mind, because although she wants your input, she most likely still wants to make the final decision.

While you may be indifferent to many of the options your wedding provides, you can be sure that this is not the case with your bride. She will have certain expectations of her wedding day and certain details she is adamant about. On other issues, she may want reassurance, or just want you to handle certain items. Whatever you work out, make sure that it is an arrangement you are both happy with instead of trying to avoid any involvement.

Wedding Invitations - 10 Ways to Save Money

Saturday, December 27th, 2008 | Relationships | No Comments

When it comes to your wedding invitations, you probably know about how much of your wedding budget will be spent on them.  If you could spend even less without sacrificing style and quality, that extra money could be spent elsewhere on your wedding or saved for future use.

Steps to saving a little money on your wedding invitations do not have to be huge to be cost effective.  In fact, sometimes just planning ahead can save you both dollars and stress.

Of course, the most obvious step would be to trim down your guest list resulting in fewer invitations to order but that is not always practical when you have plenty of family and friends with whom to celebrate your special day.

There are also many other ways to ease your wedding invitation budget:

1.  Shop around to find that perfect style that fits your budget.  The Internet provides the convenience of shopping from your computer when it fits your schedule.

2.  Place your order early to prevent paying more for expedited shipping methods.  Having plenty of time to assemble and address your invitations will also eliminate last-minute pressure.

3.  Be sure to order some extra invitations to allow for last-minute guests and to save a few for keepsakes.  It’s definitely cheaper to order more initially than to place an order for only a few invitations later.  Typically, the cost per invitation goes down as the quantity of your order increases.  If the option of ordering a few extra envelopes is offered, you may want to also do this to cover any addressing mistakes that could happen.

4.  Select cheap wedding invitations such as a classic single-panel card style that is simple yet elegant and tends to cost less per invitation, especially when ordered in quantity.

5.  Choose a seal and send wedding invitation.  This economical all-in-one design folds up and seals into its own self-mailing piece.  Without the double mailing envelopes, this style tends to cost less per invitation and eliminates the extra cost of response cards with return envelopes.  Instead, a response postcard is attached to the invitation and is included in the invitation price.  It is easily removed and mailed back by your guests requiring only a postcard return stamp.

6.  Be cautious of styles that are larger in size, consist of multiple layers, or include embellishments.  Their size and possible extra weight could increase the amount of postage required for mailing.

7.  When offered ink color choices, select black ink which is normally included in the invitation price.  There is an additional per-item-ordered cost for colored inks.  This means a separate ink charge for the invitations, response cards, reception cards, return address printing, etc., which can add up.

8.  Pass on the option of having a colored lining on your inner envelopes which costs extra.

9.  Include your reception information right on your invitation to eliminate the cost of a separate reception card (having less weight in the envelope might even save you from affixing extra postage).   If space allows, your dinner and reception details can be added on as extra lines aligned with the rest of your verse printing.  Some invitation styles allow the option of a corner copy – 3-4 lines that appear in the bottom left or right corner usually in a smaller sized font.  There may be a small extra charge for these lines.  Corner copy is not recommended for narrow or tea length styles.

10.  Order your thank you or informal notes at the same time you place your wedding invitation order to avoid separate shipping costs and to eliminate the need to order them at a later time.  With most invitation styles these can be printed on matching paper.

Every little bit helps if you are looking for money saving options for your unique wedding invitations.  Everyone has their own vision of how their invitations will look and only you know what you are willing to compromise on in fulfilling your dream.  Just remember that your invitations provide your guests with their first glance of your wedding.

There’s More to Wedding Invitations Than You Might Think

Thursday, December 4th, 2008 | Relationships | No Comments

Everybody talks about wedding invitations, but what about all the terms related to them.  Here are explanations of some of the more common ones that you’ll probably encounter while invitation shopping.

Seal n Send Invitations:  This simple wedding invitation style is also economical for several reasons.  It is a single-folded piece with the response postcard attached to the invitation by a perforation for easy removal.  Since the response piece is a postcard, you will save on postage for the return mailing.  It folds up into a self-mailer piece eliminating an extra mailing envelope.  Prices for this product normally include seals along with a printed return address on both the back flap and on the perforated response postcard.

Reception Cards:  If there isn’t enough room on your wedding invitation for listing your reception details, reception cards can be ordered to match your invitations and then be included as a separate insert.  Please keep in mind that this card could possibly add to your mailing cost since postage is based on weight.

Response Cards:  These cards are essential to planning for your dinner/reception since an accurate guest attendance count will be needed for food and seating preparations.  The response card along with its mailing envelope will be inserted with your wedding invitation.  It’s courtesy to include a postage stamp on the return mailing envelope which will already be printed with your chosen mailing address. Your guests can then conveniently fill it out and send it back to you.

Map/Direction Cards:  These direction cards would be included as a convenience for any guests who might not be familiar with the location of the church and/or reception.

Lined Inner Envelopes:  For a small charge, you can request your inner envelopes have a colored lining to add a special touch to your wedding invitation ensemble.  Color choices will vary depending on the invitation style you choose.

Printed Invitation Envelope Flaps:  This option of having your return address printed on the outside envelope can save you valuable time and ensure that undeliverable wedding invitations are returned to you.  There is a small cost involved but it also gives an address to those who might not be able to attend but still want to send you a card or gift.

Envelope Seals:  These self-adhesive labels add just the right finishing touch.  They are available in many styles and are used on your outer envelope making it look like they are holding the flap down even though it has already been sealed.

Announcements:  For those who won’t be invited to your wedding but you would still like them to know about your marriage, you can mail them an announcement card.  Even though they are mailed either on your wedding day or immediately after with the wording announcing that your wedding has already taken place, they can be printed on paper matching your invitations.

Informal Notes:  These are used separately from your wedding invitations but should be included with your original order since they are usually printed on matching paper and this will save you on shipping costs.  The front of the card is personalized with either your names or monogram and the inside is blank for your personal written thank you note.  Any leftovers can be used long after the wedding for other purposes.  Blank mailing envelopes are included with them.

Not all of the above items are necessary to make your wedding invitations complete. This is your special day so you will ultimately decide what will be included in your invitation ensemble.

Wedding Invitations - How to be Creative Even on the Outside

Sunday, November 30th, 2008 | Relationships | No Comments

Invitations to a wedding are welcome pieces of mail that people enjoy receiving. It’s fun to open up that envelope knowing there’s an invitation inside. But amidst all of today’s junk mail, how can you make your envelope stand out to get your guests’ attention?

Why not consider being creative with the outside appearance of your ready-to-mail wedding invitation using any of these suggestions.

  • Shape - With so many wedding invitation designs available today, you could easily select a uniquely shaped style such as square or tea length. The mailing envelope will then reflect that same distinctive size to fit the invitation.
  • Style - Another option is to select a Seal and Send wedding invitation style. This all-in-one invitation is designed to be folded into a self-mailing piece eliminating the need for a mailing envelope. The response card is attached to the invitation so it can be easily detached by your wedding guest along the perforation. Since it is a postcard, the return mailing envelope is eliminated and your postage cost will be less.
  • Color - How about using color for emphasis? Some wedding invitations now come with colored mailing envelopes. In particular, self-mailer invitations often include a colored envelopment that holds your invitation card and has a built-in pocket for keeping any extra enclosures. It then folds up to wrap around your invitation pieces to become its own self-mailing piece.
  • Decorative Seals - Adding a seal to your wedding invitation envelope could be that extra touch you’ve been looking for. Even though your envelope is sealed, you can choose to place a special seal on the back so it gives the illusion that it is actually holding the flap down. There are often seal personalization choices, from monograms to first names. Their appearance can be clear, white, silver, gold, embossed, etc.
  • Custom Wedding Stamps - There are now websites that offer you the option of creating your own personalized postage stamps using an uploaded photo or choosing from ready-to-use wedding designs. This is a great way to dress up your wedding invitation envelopes to reflect your personal style.

You want to be sure your wedding invitation gets the attention of your guests as soon as it arrives and that it doesn’t get lost in their sea of junk mail. Using any of the above ideas will also start creating excitement before they even open your invitation.
